An Afternoon at Gallup Park

Gallup Park is a park located on the northeast side of Ann Arbor. The Gallup Park trail runs along the south bank of the Huron River. The trail starts on the east end at Dixboro Road, and ends on the west side at Mitchell Field, which is adjacent to the Arb. End-to-end, the trail is a little less than three miles long. Round trip from Dixboro Road to the Gallup Park bridge is about three and a half miles, and the full trail clocks in at about 5.75 miles. While the Arb provides lots of hills for a good variety, the Gallup Park trail is my favorite path for a nice long run during the summer.

This is a view of the Huron River from the east end of the trail near Dixboro Road.

The trail is bordered by the Huron River on the right, and the Norfolk-Southern train tracks on the left.

The trail follows the winding curves of the river. On a nice summer afternoon, the trail will be full of walkers, runners, bicyclists, and roller bladers.

Concordia University is across the river from the trail, and you can see the chapel rising above the trees.

The main Gallup Park bridge crosses the Huron River. Back in the early 1970's, this bridge was how Geddes Road crossed the river.

The western end of the trail is flanked by woods on either side.

It looks like spring may finally be here...

It is going to be tough leaving Ann Arbor behind. Northern Virginia has some nice parks, like the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park. But it still won't be quite the same without the Arb or Gallup Park.
